Relax/Reflect

It was a great learning adventure. I especially liked Pandora, Avatars and of course, blogging. I now know how to help our customers with their questions more effectively. I have always been a "I can figure this out" kind of person but now I feel I have the knowledge to assist more efficiently.

I had trouble keeping up with the lessons. I wonder if 2 lessons per month might be a better pace based on the level of activity in each of our buildings as well as other committee commitments.

Other than that, I thought the SIL 20 for 2.0 team did a fabulous job!

Gaming

It was harder than I thought. I could get hooked....

Geomapping and Google Earth

Google earth was amazing even if they had my address in the wrong place. I was able to peruse my neighborhood. It must have been garbage day because my cans were out. It reminded me that I live in a wonderful place!

Avatars

Here is my Avatar. I wish I had more options like ability to streak my hair and have it be a little longer, etc., but all in all I look pretty library-like!

Online Apps

Google docs was pretty cool - easy way to share files with coworkers. ZoHo didn't support Excel 2007 .xls which was weird.

Podcasting

I wasn't successful downloading a podcast. I'll have to try again tomorrow.

Search Engines

I still like Google the best. Mama is clean and efficient, Rollyo is a messy and complicated screen. Several of the links I clicked on froze.

Online Image Generators

That was great fun! I can see lots of uses for that little tool - mostly just fun stuff!

OverDrive

I have used OverDrive extensively since it came to SIL. I remember thinking that the initial downloading steps were confusing and cumbersome. I think this was true for our patrons also since I received many calls from patrons at home trying to download a book. Now that I have it installed on my computer I find it easy to use and very helpful for non-fiction especially. I don't find many old titles of my favorite mindless mystery writers, just the new stuff. It is a great service that I am happy SIL provides to our customers.

del.icio.us

I can see this will be a really useful tool especially with reference help. How many times have we type the same URL over and over and how many times have we found a great website and can't remember what it was?

Wikis

Seems like a convenient way to organize information with convenient links to other online information.

I got a lot of good book suggestions from PPL's Bookloverswiki. I wish they had continued it.

YouTube, Hulu & Fancast

I enjoyed watching the SIL video and the interview with Jeanne Crisp. Hulu seemed to be mostly interviews or clips while on Fancast you could view a full episode.

MySpace

I found MySpace kind of frightening.

Pandora is cool!

Where have I been? Pandora is way cool! Here is my radio stations.

Flickr

Here is my Flickr photo: http://www.flickr.com/photos/28823521@N03/tags/sil20for20/
I thought this process was a snap and will use it to share family photos in the future.

The Shifted Librarian

I'm glad to have found "The Shifted Librarian" and wouldn't have if not for RSS feeds. It gave me a chance to read about the CiL conference and a topic that interests me - Teens and Gaming in Libraries - as there are two of those human types that live in my home!

BUF (aka Beagle Under Feet)

Well, this week Grace and I learned to IM. The teenagers in our house do it all the time but they don't like it when we try to watch. Until we received the acronym list from the Team we didn't know what they were saying anyway!

We have used MSN IM before - Google Talk seems more confusing with all the extraneous stuff around the screen, ads, etc.

I actually like to IM - it makes me feel like I am talking to the person directly and in the same space unlike email where you send and wait until someone reads it and responds.

It also allows me to keep in touch with WI friends!

Where or where has my little blog gone....

I have checked each day and I don't see my blog on the list of participants. Did I do something wrong? Has anyone else had this problem? Since my blog is not present I don't think I will get any responses!

So far, the 20 for 2.0 has been fun, informative and slow enough paced that it is easy done even during a frantic week.

About us...

Hi - We are Hope and Grace. We live on Whidbey Island now but had a really rocky start in this world. You see, for the first 2 years of our lives we lived in cages at a lab at a dog food company. Nothing real bad was done to us except that we were never loved or socialized. Our owner says we are "emotionally challenged" Beagles, whatever that means. We don't like loud noises or people to move really fast. We have a really hard time getting to know humans, especially teenage ones. We are proud to say we will eat ourselves sick if allowed to. One time we ate 18 blueberry muffins that Scout put on the table to cool while she took those teenagers that live here to school. Big mistake...we were sick for hours.

More on our adventures later. We think this blogging is fun! (Scout can't believe she's getting paid to do it!)
